I recently met with an extraordinarily successful co-founder and board member of a multi-million dollar company. She has been part of the growth of this entity since ground zero.
Fast forward 5 years, and the company was recently sold to an outside investment group and she no longer feels aligned with the direction of the organization and her current role there.
What’s next for me? she asked.
As she shared her list of options she is considering, I asked her to imagine her life 1 year from today without any limitations. For a few minutes, the noise of the current environment disappeared, and she was left with her heart’s true desire…to swing for the fences and create something from scratch, on her own. She had done it multiple times with and for other people and has confidence in her ability to do it again, but this time, why not for herself?
Fear, doubt, imposter syndrome oh my!
This is where many amazing dreams fail to be realized and instead end up in our list of regrets in our life. The would haves, the should haves, the excuses why we didn’t pursue….but what if we did not give up so quickly on our ideas? What if we spent more time imagining how it would feel ‘if it worked’? We could give ourselves permission to take small steps towards the vision of making it happen without throwing in the towel before it begins.
What if instead of leaning into the fear that things may not work out….we could lean instead into the possibility that it could….
What would be your next step to explore your own possibilities of following your dreams?
