We Can't Change What We Don't See

I never liked public speaking. In fact, I hated it. I remember standing in front of my class in school, terrified I’d burst into uncontrollable laughter, which, by the way, happened more than once.

For nearly my entire life until recently, this resistance to public speaking became part of my identity. It was a story I told myself and believed wholeheartedly. But recently, I’ve been leaning into the discomfort, observing my fear, and making a conscious choice to focus on the impact that’s bigger than the fear itself. Every time I step forward, I’m reminded that growth lives on the other side of what feels uncomfortable. Believe it or not, it’s not as scary as I imagined it to be. It’s becoming easier by "just doing it!”

I talk with my clients all the time about their own inner blocks, the stories, beliefs, and patterns that might be holding them back from making progress towards their goals or dreams. Sometimes we know they’re there. Often, we don’t.

My process for moving through some of these inner blocks:

  1. Awareness – Noticing what it is that might be holding you back.

  2. Acceptance – Acknowledging and even embracing the discomfort, instead of resisting it.

  3. Conscious Choice – Deciding how you want to respond and move forward.

I invite you to consider:

What beliefs are you holding onto that might be limiting your own expansion?

Focus on one of them, and ask yourself:

  • Where did this belief come from?

  • How true is it?

  • Who would I be without it?

  • What becomes possible if I walk through it instead of avoiding it?

  • Am I willing to take that step?

Because here is the truth… most of us stay where we feel safe, not because we don’t have the ability, but because we’ve convinced ourselves we are not ready or worthy.

If public speaking taught me anything, it is this: The thing we fear most often becomes the thing that moves us beyond our perceived limitations.

So the real question becomes:

Are you satisfied with your status quo, or is something calling you to change?

Coaching can help you uncover the blocks that may be unknowingly holding you back so that you can step into your next season of growth, fulfillment, and impact.
